The Teacher’s Conservation Workshop began in 1982 as a series of 1-day events held throughout the year. Referred to as “Woods Walk – Woods Talk,” the program became nationally acclaimed and evolved into a week-long, in-service training called the “Teacher’s Conservation Workshop.” More than 1,500 teachers have had the chance to learn forest ecology and take away a better understanding of natural resources and their management.
Several teachers are learning how to use a Biltmore Stick to estimate timber volumes and value. The Forest has many values. Timber is just one of them. This huge white oak can represent many of those values.
